It’s possible you’ve already started your Christmas shopping (Jason Hartman always waits till the day before), but for most of us, September is kind of a weird month, shopping-wise. As the air becomes cooler, the leaves (if you have them) change colors, and baseball playoffs begin, there area few deals worth hitting up. Money-conscious spenders take note—fall is good for more than football!
As we get closer to winter, many stores are trying to get rid of patio furniture, which is great for those of us lucky enough to live in climates that will allow outdoor socializing for a few more weeks. Stores like Shopko, Kmart, and Target seem to offer the best deals, so look out for massive markdowns.
Also, things like outdoor fire pits (perfect for cooler fall temperatures!) and lighting are often included in these markdowns, so stock up and get your marshmallow sticks ready.
September is often a month for the emergence of new models—brands like Apple often unveil new products. Lucky for you, new products mean markdowns on old ones. If you’re in the market for a new phone or tablet, this might be your season.
If you’ve been putting off buying a fancy new TV, its time to throw away your 500 pound dinosaur and invest. Plasma TVs are cheaper right now, but the best deal is on 32 inch LCD HD TVs. Larger models are cheaper on Black Friday, but the 32 inch somehow negates the trend and is available during the fall for much lower prices.
Maybe a summer of road trips has your car feeling the pressure of miles upon miles, but—don’t fear! Like phones, tablets, and computers, the fall is a time for new car models and revelations. Dealerships often offer slashed prices on car models that are a year (or two or three) older. Wait it out in September and start car shopping closer to October and even November—December will mean higher Christmas prices, so be sure to hit that sweet spot.
Saving money on day to day expenses and even luxuries means a higher amount of money left over for you to invest in projects of your choosing. Shop smarter, not harder—and watch as your wise financial planning results in more money down the road. Do you have any tips on fall purchases? Share them below!
